Telemetry/EKG helps identify damage to heart muscles and measure the heart's ability to pump blood. This course begins with medical terminology relating to cardiac disorders, diagnoses, and arrhythmias. Also covered in this course is basic anatomy and physiology of the heart so that students gain knowledge about how a normal heart functions. The two systems of the heart, mechanical and electrical, are covered as well as interpreting arrhythmias and measuring rhythm strips. Students are instructed on proper reporting and documenting of changes in a patient's rhythm strips and how to handle emergent arrhythmias. This is an entry-level course for anyone wanting to work in the area of healthcare.
